Let’s talk a little about petroleum. This dark, thick crude oil is found deep beneath the ground in certain areas – especially found under the crust of earth-trapped rocks. Petroleum is extracted by drilling holes in the crust of the earth where its presence is predicted via surveys; then, the oil wells are drilled using drilling rigs. Once it’s drilled – first comes the natural oil with high pressure & secondly comes the petroleum oil triggered by the gas pressure. Once the gas pressure is calmed – here comes the petroleum well pumped out of the oil well. On land, oil can be drilled with an apparatus called an oil rig or drilling rig; offshore, oil is drilled from an oil platform.

Not all oil is accessible on land or in shallow waters. Some oil deposits are buried deep under the ocean floor. Reaching these oil deposits is dangerous, but if done correctly, it can also be rewarding. If things go wrong, however, the results can be deadly both for oil workers and the surrounding environment. Offshore oil (sea-based) production is much more expensive than onshore (land-based) production. Pumps are used to extract oil. In sea-based production – floating platforms are used for drilling in deeper waters, including water depths of 10,000 feet or greater. The vessels are attached to the ocean floor by large cables and anchors. After wells have been drilled from these platforms, production equipment is lowered to the ocean floor. However, offshore petroleum production is required to take precautions to prevent pollution, spills, and significant changes to the ocean environment – Rigs are deployed to withstand hurricanes in offshore environments. An interesting fact is that around 50K offshore oil platforms (Sea oil wells) are in U.S. federal waters & 97% of it is present in the Gulf of Mexico. Most oil rigs have two sets of pumps: mud pumps and extraction pumps. Successful drilling sites can produce oil for about 30 years, although some produce for many more decades. Oil was not always extracted, refined, and used by millions of people as it is today. However, it has always been an important part of many cultures.

An interesting fact is that petroleum oil is the third latest exported product in the world. The world’s largest producer of oil is the United States, accounting for roughly 20% of oil production. The richest region with petroleum in Asia is Saudi Arabia which has 15% of the world’s oil reserves; then Russia, which constitutes 11% of global exports – however, with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia – its energy companies are prohibited from accessing capital markets in European regions – maybe this is why they say that war loves to seek its victims in the young. Canada, Iraq, UAE, Nigeria, Kuwait, Norway & Kazakhstan are other regions that export petroleum.
